What is ProPERLA Masonry Créme?
ProPERLA Masonry Créme is a surface treatment, it works by insulating exterior mineral building materials (such as brick, stone, concrete and sandstone walls) by reducing water absorption. The masonry créme chemically bonds to the surface, penetrating up to 17mm to create an invisible insulation barrier. This invisible layer reduces the heat exchange between the interior & exterior sides of the wall its applied to. This therefore increases the insulation properties and reduces how much heat is lost throughout.
The Masonry Créme creates a clear insulation barrier for both single skin buildings and those that have a cavity. It has been proven to help retain heat in walls and reduce heat loss. UKAS accredited tests have demonstrated that by reducing water absorption of the walls, the Masonry Créme leads to thermal performance benefits. It has been proven to meet EAD 040083-00-0404 standards. In addition, testing in a hygrothermal chamber revealed that a wall coated in the Masonry Créme and then subjected to fierce conditions, resulted in reduced heat loss when compared with the uncoated wall. The ProPERLA coated wall resulted on average 6⁰C more efficient than the uncoated surface.
The clear coating improves thermal efficiency and contributes to lower energy consumption and energy bills, by keeping the walls dry. Damp walls act as ‘thermal bridges’ – enabling heat to transfer from the inside out twice as fast as it would if the walls remained dry. Independent testing has shown that ProPERLA Masonry Crème reduces water absorption by 96.3% and meets the British standard for water vapour resistance BS EN ISO 7783:2011.
What is ProPERLA Facade Coating?
ProPERLA Facade Coating is a technically advanced, two-coat coloured, exterior wall coating which like ProPERLA Masonry Créme insulates mineral building materials (such as brick, stone, concrete and sandstone walls), it also reduces water absorption by 93.4%.
It comes in an array of standard colours (seen below), but we can also match any bespoke colour # mix to match your requirements if necessary. Facade Coating has a lifetime expectancy of 25 years and comes with a 10 year manufacturer’s guarantee as standard.
When applied, the exterior wall coating creates a super hydrophobic surface commonly referred to as the ‘Lotus Effect‘ due to it’s similarity to the water repelling properties of the lotus leaf. When it rains, coated mineral surfaces will repel the water like a rain repellent product does on a car window, causing it to form beads (because the water is more attracted to itself than the surface) and run off without being absorbed. Independent tests have shown that it reduces water absorption by 93.4% and therefore meets the British standard for water vapour resistance.
UKAS accredited tests demonstrated that by reducing water absorption of the walls, the wall coating lead to thermal performance benefits & has been proven to meet EAD 040083-00-0404. In addition, testing in a hygrothermal chamber revealed that a wall treated with the wall coating and subjected to repeated heat-rain conditions in accordance with EAD 090062-00-0404, resulted in reduced heat loss when compared with the uncoated (control) wall. The uncoated wall showed on average an increase of 6⁰C of heat loss in comparison to the walls coated with ProPERLA. The wall coating also improves thermal efficiency and contributes to lower energy consumption and lower energy bills, by keeping walls dry. Damp walls act as ‘thermal bridges’ – enabling heat to transfer from the inside out twice as quickly as it would if the walls remained dry.
Benefits: of ProPERLA Masonry Créme
Benefits: ProPERLA Facade Coating
Step 1 (Survey Assessment)
We survey your property, and give recommendations on the most suitable insulation. All options are non-obligatory but if ProPERLA is the best option for you & you decide to go ahead, the surveyor will calculate your measurements/pricing & arrange appropriate install dates.
Step 2 (Pre-Install Preparation)
Our highly trained installers will arrive at your property, Firstly a pre-install inspection will be carried out to ensure everything is safe and fit for install. Then the installers will start work, treating and pressure washing the required areas in order for the surface to be free from any contaminants/debris. We will then setup all protective sheeting, masking and equipment in preparation. Depending on the current condition of the property re-pointing may be required, if it is needed that will done at the same time.
Step 3 (Install)
After waiting for the surfaces to be dry enough the installers will then commence work by methodically applying the ProPERLA product to the required areas (this can be done by either an airless sprayer or by hand rollers), making sure the correct thickness is applied throughout.
If ProPERLA Masonry Créme is being installed, the product will be white initially but will dry clear, this is to ensure that the installer can see where has been applied and what is still needed to be covered.
If ProPERLA Facade Coating is being installed, once the first layer is applied the installer will then wait until the first layer is completely dry before applying the second coat (usually this is done on a second install date).
Step 4 (Post-Install Evaluation & Clean Up)
On completion of the job, the lead installer will show you before & after photos, explain what has been done & offer to show you the work and run through any questions you may have. Once you are satisfied that everything has been done to the right standard there will be some post-install paperwork to complete, which we can then document to issue your warranty.
Please reach us at info@penguinhomes.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
No, not necessarily. The installers are very well quipped and have specialised ladders/equipment in order to access most jobs with ease.
However, some jobs do require scaffolding in rare instances. This mainly depends on the accessibility and safety concerns of the job. If there are any restrictions we think could cause an issue, these will be identified during your initial survey assessment.
The install time does massively vary from job to job, normally for ProPERLA Masonry Créme the install can be completed in one day depending on circumstances. For ProPERLA Facade Coating which is far more complex, the install can be anything from 1-5 days depending on the job specs.
Yes, both ProPERLA Masonry Créme and ProPERLA Facade Coating can be installed all year round as long as its installed in dry weather conditions and the temperature is higher than 5°C when the coating is applied.
In most cases, ProPERLA Masonry Créme takes 5 minutes to turn clear and up to 48 hours to return to its original brick/stone aesthetic. This can very depending on temperature.
